On today’s first charter, we headed to the Sanibel oyster bar!

There we caught some nice Redfish, which is the target species when we fish the oyster bars, but today we hooked a surprise, a 30 pound Stingray.

We fought him for about ten minutes before we finally managed to bring him to the boat. After we looked at him for a while, I cut the line letting him go no worse for wear.

On today’s second charter we first headed back to Blind Pass!

There we caught a few nice Snook and a couple of decent Sea Trout, we also caught a big Jack!

Jacks, pound for pound, are probably one of if not the best fighting fish in the area! Even the small ones can give a fight that you would only think a larger fish could muster, they are truly amazing.

After that we went to Redfish Pass. There we caught a few nice Bluefish along with the usual Ladyfish.

Well, we all gave it our best shot … but it was tough fishing!  We were skunked on our boat.

Hank blames it on bad karma from Lamar!  We shouldn’t have let him on the boat!  🙂

The only good news is that Jimmy’s boat also got shut out!

40+ boats and only one tarpon was caught!  The tarpon were smarter and tougher than the fishing guides and they showed us who was boss!

Today it was raining so no fishing…

However, I am pleased to report that the main Tarpon schools have started to arrive!

They are moving through Captiva Pass now, and in another few days they will start going through Boca Grande Pass!

In Boca Grande Pass we fish for Tarpon a little differently then we fish for them inshore of Captiva. instead  of  casting out a live or cut bait, we instead use a special tarpon lure.

Also, instead of casting out a bait and then waiting for a fish to find it, we use a fish finder to find the schools of fish. We then drop the lure down onto the school, and hope one takes the bait!
