Saturday, 6/18/11 … trout, mackerel and a 9-10′ hammerhead

Took some youngsters out today and we caught trout & mackerel.

Then we looked for tarpon off the beach.  We saw some, but had no bites.

On the ride in, we saw a 9-10 foot hammerhead shark off Blind Pass, about a mile out.  We tried to catch him, but had no luck.

The video above will give you a sense of why you always have to be aware of hammerheads when you are tarpon fishing.

Thursday, 6/16/6 … nice tarpon at Boca Grande

Left the dock from Sanibel around 6:00 a.m. to start the morning charter with some tarpon fishing in Boca Grande Pass.

We arrived in Boca around 6:35 a.m. and hooked a tarpon right away.  We got a 150 lb. tarpon boat side by about 7:00 a.m.

The fish fed hard early on the low tide change and then they quit so we moved on.

This afternoon, we caught five sharks in Captiva Pass on the outgoing tide.  All were black nose sharks; three males and two females.

We have had a pretty good run over the last couple of weeks … another great day of charter fishing off Captiva!

Good fishing day!

Sunday, 6/12/11 … wrap-up on the Caloosa Tournament @ South Seas Plantation

Lexi weighing-in, Caloosa 2011.
Our team.

It is always good to be a skilled fisherman or fisherwoman.  Sometimes it is even better to be lucky!

We did okay this weekend in the Caloosa Redfish Tournament based out of South Seas Plantation.  We finished 9th, which was a pretty good finish because there were fifty-four teams in the competition.

Caloosa Tourney Boats.

What made it even better was there were, of course, prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but also a $500 prize for 9th place!  It turned out that, if you weren’t in the top three, you wanted to be in 9th place!  We just lucked into it!

Lexi, my daughter, caught our big fish, a 7 pounder!  We all had a wonderful time!
