Sunday, 4/17/11 … forecast for the week ahead

With the early, warm spring bringing water temperatures to unseasonable highs and good water movement as we come closer to the full moon, my assumption is that fishing will be excellent for tarpon and trout in the morning this week.

If you are going after redfish or sharks, the afternoon will probably be best (especially around Captiva Pass and the Sanibel light house).

As we near the full moon, large schools of tarpon and sharks will use the strong tides to migrate to and around Sanibel and Captiva.   After fish migrate, their stomachs start growling and they need to put some food down the hatch.  That means that we are expecting to see large schools of hungry tarpon feeding off the shores of Sanibel and Captiva in the next week or two.

If your not into fishing, shelling will be great with our morning low tides on the beaches.

Snorkeling will also be better day by day as the could fronts stop coming our way and the easterly trade winds come across Cayo Costa and North Captiva.  Snorkeling for shells is a great way to find that special keep sake that will remind you of your vacation for years to come.

Tight lines this Sunday with fair winds and following seas.
